Channel 4 commission Whizz Kid to produce George Michael Wembley special

Whizz Kid Entertainment is set to produce exclusive coverage of the first ever live music concert from the new Wembley Stadium as world-renowned artist George Michael performs to 90,000 fans at his sell-out show on Saturday June 9th.

Highlights of the event will be broadcast by Channel 4 as part of a one-hour programme charting the artist’s very personal route to Wembley.

And Chris Evans will be presenting the show, which will feature an exclusive interview with George himself.

George Michael is no stranger to the venue, having performed at the old stadium with Wham!, at Live Aid and not forgetting his stunning rendition of ‘Somebody to Love’ at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.

The programme also features contributions from celebrity friends and fans and counts down to the moment when Channel 4 crosses live to the first ever show at the super venue.

Chief Executive of Whizz Kid Entertainment, Malcolm Gerrie, said: “George is making history on June 9th and we are thrilled to have been invited to record this unique event for posterity”

Jules Oldroyd, Channel 4’s Head of Schedules, Music, T4 and Youth added: “At Channel 4 we talk about doing things first – covering George Michael performing at Wembley Stadium’s very first music concert doesn’t come much bigger than this. We are hugely excited to be involved.”

This is the latest in a long line of commissions for Whizz Kid, who celebrated their first birthday earlier this month.

Whizz Kid Entertainment is owned jointly by Ingenious Media Active Capital (IMAC) and Malcolm Gerrie. Since it’s inception a year ago, Whizz Kid have produced a raft of entertainment successes, including the recent Elton John concert for ITV – ‘Happy Birthday Elton’ and the ‘Orange British Academy Film Awards’.

Whizz Kid are currently in production with the ‘BAFTA TV Awards’ and have also produced the Living TV series, ‘Beauty and the Best’, featuring Janice Dickinson and Abbey Clancy.
